Throughout the year, democrats have said that they would ride a ‘blue wave’ to victory in the 2018 midterm elections. They even talked about flipping the Senate and maybe even Congress, and then use their newfound power to stifle the president’s policy agendas.
But as the months have dragged on, trust in the Democrat Party has waned. Now, even according to leftist polling organizations like Zogby Analytics, it seems like the democrats are in for a disappointing midterm election season. The ‘blue wave’ is slowing to a trickle, and as the Zogby ‘who do you trust’ poll showed, it may get even worse for the democrats.
In recent weeks, Zogby reported a downward trend in trust in democrats. But perhaps most importantly, they managed to identify that the downward trend was among ‘core constituencies’ that the DNC has long believed to be faithfully theirs.
Republicans showed strong gains over their democrat competitors when it came to national security and the economy.
When asked “who do you trust more” to grow the United States’ economy, more likely voters said that they trusted President Trump than ‘democrat leaders.’ In fact, the president beat the democrats by six percent.
When it came to who the likely voters trusted more to keep America safe, he maintained his lead, though it narrowed to a two percent lead over ‘democrat leaders.’
Democrats are losing millennials between the ages of 18 and 24, who now favor democrats and their policies 44 percent to 32 percent.
The DNC is even losing women, 41 percent of whom support democrat leaders, versus 34 percent who support the President of the United States. In customary liberal fashion(they love to label people based on skin color and other superficial elements), the poll registered a decrease in support for democrats among ‘Walmart and NASCAR’ voters.
His support among minority voters is even on the rise, likely thanks to Kanye West and his willingness to say that there’s nothing wrong with not voting the way everyone is expected to.
So, what does this mean for democrats in contested states? Nothing good, that’s for certain.
President Trump won the 2016 election on the votes of working-class individuals. The much derided ‘NASCAR and Walmart’ voters are his bread and butter, and they seem to still be in his corner. But the democrats are losing the youth and even the minority vote! That is truly shocking information.
These two groups were classically ‘left-leaning’ in their politics and their voting record to the extreme. When Barack Obama ran for president, they came out in droves, excited to be ‘part of history’ and to elect the first ‘black’ president (or the second, if you count Bill Clinton).
But, Hillary Clinton didn’t manage to excite them during the 2016 election, and it doesn’t seem like the current crop of DNC leaders, and their ideas, are faring any better.
What does this mean for the 2018 election?
Well, at this point, it’s hard to tell. There are months separating the United States from the election, and anything can happen. There’s also the fact that this polling data from Zogby has a margin of error of about three percent, give or take. Factor that margin of error in, and many of the polling trends become (possibly) much more interesting.
But it’s not good for the Democrat Party that they’re losing voters that have been safely theirs for decades.
Maybe it’s the fact that they’ve done literally nothing except complain about President Donald Trump since he won. Maybe it’s the fact that they often complained about the silliest things, like the fact that he got two scoops of ice cream while everyone with him only got one (the man with the ability to unleash nuclear hell is entitled to a second scoop).
Maybe it’s something more. Maybe it’s the fact that the DNC offers so few solutions. Maybe it’s the fact that they’re campaigning on a promise to reverse tax cuts and bring America back to the Obama years, which were awful for almost everyone, and for minorities and the youth most of all. Maybe it’s the fact that liberal-held enclaves are cesspools of poverty, destruction and chaos.
Maybe it’s because, after the end of the Obama years, it seems like all that ‘hope and change’ he campaigned on is finally coming, but from President Trump, a real estate mogul.
This isn’t to say that a majority of the youth vote and the minority vote is going to go to right-leaning candidates. But the fact that the vote is trending toward republican politicians and ideals may mean that, after decades of reliable votes for the DNC, the youth and minorities of today may be interested in freedom more than the nanny state.
Perhaps most shocking, though, is that these statistical trends are being shown in a ZOGBY poll. Zogby Analytics is not known for being ‘right-leaning’ at all. Their polls generally favor leftists and left-leaning politics.
If even Zogby is seeing this shift, that bodes well for the president, and it bodes well for his supporters.
