Even though Bernie Sanders lost the Democratic nomination to Hillary Clinton, not without help mind you, he still has a lot of supporters that want to see him make a run for the Presidency. One party in particular has been trying to recruit the former presidential hopeful for their party.
The Green Party, which is headed by Jill Stein, has been trying to get the millions of Sanders supporters to vote for their party so that Clinton doesn’t stand a chance of winning the nomination. It is a valiant effort, but Sanders is urging his supporters to not vote for the Green Party.
A lot of Sander’s supporters are angry at the release of the emails that showed the Democratic National Committee trying to sabotage Sanders campaign. Stein has the right idea in trying to lure the supporters away from the Democrats. After all, why would you vote for the woman who’s party was instrumental in not letting Sanders win the nomination?
However Sanders has been trying to get his supporters to only vote for Clinton. “I don’t know the leadership of the Green Party, but I respect what they’re trying to do. They’re focusing on very, very important issues. But I think right now — what is it, three, four months before an election — you’re gonna end up having a choice. Either Hillary Clinton is going to become president, or [GOP nominee] Donald Trump.”
Either Sanders is trying to keep the Democratic party together, or he knows that any more infighting will cause the voters to leave and possibly vote for Trump. That is what they should do. Why would you want to continue supporting the party that conspired against your candidate?
Sanders is right however. It’s either going to be Clinton or Trump who wins the presidency. As great as the effort of the Green Party is, it’s ultimately going to go to waste. The Green and Libertarian Party may have good ideas, but people in the United States have been used to a two party system for many years.
The Green Party had its best year in the 2000 election. They gathered over three million votes. But that didn’t lead to a single electoral vote for them. So voting for them might turn out to be a wasted vote.
Share this article if you think that Sanders is trying to urge his supporters to vote for Clinton rather than go to other parties and vote for their leaders. Clinton is probably going to need all the help that she can get.
