Taco Bell Employee Accused Of Racism After Student Sees Receipt

The manager of the store tried to blame the customer.

Taco Bell is feeling the heat and not just from the spicy sauces.

When the movie “Black Panther” came out, many were confused by the hype. This was not, as reported by many, the first black superhero. “Spawn” predates the Panther as does the highly successful “Blade” series. The movie (while surely entertaining) was about a movement that keeps the race war alive instead of moving to unite everyone at a time when unity is most needed, not about new action heroes. The fallout of our fallen state goes well beyond blacks and whites, after all.

Though not the fault of the movie (lest we start banning things), the division that some people wanted to see deepen seems to be doing just that. Fox News tells us that a cashier at Taco Bell was “fired after printing a racial slur on a customer’s receipt.” They wrote that “In Young Lee, a first-year Ph.D student at Penn Medicine in Pennsylvania” ran to “the border” at around 4:00 a.m. with some of his friends.

Lee placed his order, and to save time he said that his name was, “Steve.” Certainly, “Lee” is every bit as easy and time-saving as “Steve,” but this he did anyhow. As confusing at sounds, he said that spelling out the name (as if he had to) was “inconvenient for both the cashier and me,” CBS Philly reports. (The Conservative Daily Post has reached out asking for comment and has not yet received a reply.)

Our interaction was very ordinary and cordial even until I saw my name on the receipt that read ‘STEVE CHINK,” wrote the angry doctor to be on Facebook.

When Lee asked the cashier about the receipt, he was less than pleased with what he said. “I was so infuriated that I couldn’t help but to confront the cashier. When I confronted him, he said that there are three Steve’s in the restaurant so he needed to differentiate. It made me even more upset that he was protecting his case rather than apologizing so I lashed out and told him that it is extremely disrespectful to use such a derogatory slur.

The cashier apologized after a moment though, and while he found the remark rather crass, Lee was willing to drop the matter. However, he heard the workers again talking, laughing, and using the word, “Chink.”

The student said, “He used the word chink again and they were joking about it.” He claims that he “snapped and stormed to the counter,” snatching his food from the worker. The whole night of folly only worsened when the manager came to offer an apology but to also say that Lee was being “disrespectful” in the way that he took his food.

The manager tried to calm me down, he said I was being disrespectful by snatching my food. I was dumbfounded,” the Asian man recalls.

Now that the Facebook post has gone viral, Taco Bell has “removed” the offending worker and said, “We do not tolerate this behavior. This employee no longer works for the brand, and the franchise is retraining its staff to ensure this incident will not happen again. Management has reached out and apologized directly to the customer.”

As for Lee, he stated that “I want people to be more aware of what they are thinking, what their behaviors are like.”

While each person’s thoughts should and must remain their own, his statement holds a lot of truth. Hopefully, his words will be listened to.
