The “skeletonized” remains of a young Florida mom who disappeared before a child custody hearing last year were discovered not far from where she was last seen.
Destiny Lee Aaron, 21, was reported missing in April after she left her Hudson home following a fight with her boyfriend and never returned, according to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.
Three days after vanishing, she was scheduled to attend the final custody hearing for her two-year-old daughter but never showed up to court.
Her mother, Karen Aaron, told local news outlets she didn’t believe Destiny Lee would abandon her child.
“She wouldn’t leave her,” her mom told news station WFLA in a May interview. “She’s a gorgeous little girl. She misses her momma.”
Authorities responded to a report on Dec. 26 about remains in a wooded area about a half a mile from where the missing woman vanished.
Using dental records, investigators were able to confirm the remains were the 21-year-old mom.
Detectives said the body had been decomposing for eight months and was “skeletonized” when it was recovered, news station WFTS reported.
The cause of the death has not been determined.
