Philadelphia Plans To Grease Light Poles To Prevent Overzealous Climbing Fans

Workers are calling themselves “Crisco cops”

It is ridiculous that a city has to waste time and money on this.

Sports fans can get overly excited when certain teams win games, a sign that our nation is quite tethered to the notion that even adults can’t be expected to control themselves. While this is a very sad fact, it remains a truth that cities must deal with rather often. What Philadelphia is doing to prevent some of the antics from destroying city property is a sign that common sense is not lost on all of our leaders, after all.

Yahoo News reports that workers “in Philadelphia are greasing light poles in a bid to prevent fans from climbing up them after the NFC Championship game.” Again, it is nothing short of heartbreaking that anyone over the age of five could act so foolishly in such large numbers that this needed, but alas, it is. Hooligans have once again cost taxpayers a needless expense.

The action will make the poles all but impossible to climb, at least that is the hope. In the past, as many fail videos can attest to, the poles actually cannot hold the weight of those climbing on them. This leads to injuries that affect anyone near the falling city structure, not just the idiot climbing on them.

Those charged with applying the grease are calling themselves “The Crisco Cops.

All of this is taking place because the “Philadelphia Eagles are hosting the Minnesota Vikings in the championship game on Sunday night.

The winner of that game shall be facing the dynasty, the New England Patriots, in the Super Bowl. This is quite an honor but is it really worth all of the insanity that often follows?

While all of this is fine and good, can America get any more childish and lacking in self-restraint? There was a time when those in the U.S. locked on at fools in Europe rioting over soccer and laughed. Now, we have fallen just as low.

After a game, a celebration should happen.

For some, sports are an escape and, as long as this passion does not control their lives, it is not at all unhealthy.

That said, if there are so many adults who can not be trusted to even attend a football game without rampaging the city like Godzilla afterward, are we really the nation that we think that we are?
