Irony, in simple terms, is making a comment about something when the literal opposite is actively happening. So if someone is being rude and someone else quips “wow you’re being nice today,” that would be irony. Sometimes it’s funny, but other times it’s just infuriating.
Movie superstar George Clooney had his own dose of irony yesterday. However, it was anything but funny. Clooney and his wife are BIG immigration activists. As part of the open borders advocates, they want to have every single illegal and refugee invited to the host country, regardless of the strain it puts on people.
The couple, along with their newborn twins, have decided to move out of Sonning, England, and back to their home in Studio City, California. The reason? They’re moving due to “security reasons,” which is where the irony comes into play. Both Clooney and his wife have spoken up about letting more refugees, ignoring the dangers that they bring. Until now that is.
Life & Style magazine reported last week about the move. According to a Clooney “insider” speaking to the magazine, “As soon as Amal found out she was pregnant, he hired former Secret Service agents to asses all his properties and make recommendations for improvement. His mansion in Studio City [Calif.] was deemed the most secure, and it’s within minutes of an LAPD station.”
The timing of this is crucial as well. England has been hit with several terrorist attacks int he past couple of months. The most notable was the Ariana Grande attack in Manchester last month that killed 22 people. Also notable was the fact that British government officials said in May that there are 23,000 known terrorists residing in Britain.
Something that cannot be ignored is the increasing violence from refugees. Every day there appear to be stories based on what refugees have done to their host country’s native citizens that have accepted them. Yet, the Clooneys have both spoken out about having countries accept more and more of them.
George himself met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in February of 2016 and applauded her acceptance of refugees. In the very same month, Clooney said that the United States isn’t doing “enough” to help the Syrian refugees, adding that accepting 10,000 per year was too low of a number.
So these Hollywood elites can criticize the governments for not taking enough refugees, but then they turn around over “security reasons?” If that isn’t the biggest batch of irony out there, then it’s going to have to be pretty big to top this.
This is especially true concerning health concerns. Back in May of this year, a Minnesota community was ravaged by the plague. This was traced back to the fact that the Muslim refugees weren’t vaccinated, allowing the disease to manifest.
It should also be noted that Clooney is a big critic of Trump, never failing to hold back his personal opinion. In an interview with The Guardian back in March of 2016, he called the current President of the United States a “xenophobic fascist” and an “opportunist.” As icing on the cake, Clooney also said Trump’s immigration policies were “idiotic” and “intolerant.”
However, that hasn’t stopped Clooney, who owns homes in several places around the world from setting up extensive security measures for himself. Back in 2015, a local Mayor of Italy was reported to have imposed a $600 fine on anyone that was caught trespassing on or near the actor’s property.
In other words, it’s not okay for governments to protect their own citizens by imposing refugee limits, but if Clooney wants to protect his house, then it’s perfectly acceptable. As for part of the reason that the actor isn’t going to his Italy house, it appears that refugees are the issue as well.
Clooney’s residence in Italy is in Lake Como. It sounds familiar because last year it was the place where a makeshift refugee camp was established. According to the Daily Mail, a local tour guide said that the refugee camps were a “big problem because of the huge numbers [of refugees] who are arriving all the time.”
When liberals want to talk about the refugees, they want to make it sound like these are children that need to be rescued before anything bad happens. However, that was debunked when a report came out at the end of May that showed these “children” were actually military-aged men.
In other words, looking up the definition of irony should result in an image of Clooney and his wife. For all their talk about open borders, bringing more refugees into different countries and anti-Trump rhetoric, they’re going back to the United States because they claim that it’s the safest for their family.
Clooney might be an Oscar-winning actor, but this move leaves a lot to be desired. Actions speak louder than words, meaning that whenever they try and talk about opening the borders or letting more refugees in, people just have to turn to this.
