Paris and Los Angeles are in the running for the 2024 Olympics and become the sports capital of the world by hosting what has been considered as one of the most important events. Although the French city is viewed as the favorite to land the Summer Games, many believe L.A. have some chance. In fact, the Californian city just received a major supporter that could set a turning point: President Donald Trump just got on the boat and announced he would bring the Olympics.
The commander in chief tweeted Tuesday morning that he is working hard so Los Angeles could host this event. Experts believe his support could be decisive in order to make the Summer Games be played in America. Furthermore, they believe that in case the predictions are correct and Paris gets the event, Los Angeles would get an interesting consolation prize: to host it in 2028.
It is known that both cities are vying to win the bids for the 2024 and 2028 Summer Games. In fact, a deal could be met between Paris and Los Angeles as soon as Tuesday. The official decision will come in September in Lima, Peru.
Apparently, L.A. Major Eric Garcetti seems prepared to lose the bid for 2024 and host the 2028 Olympics. Regarding this situation, he said that he only wants what is best for the movement, which analysts believe is the proper message considering that everything related to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is characterized for being quite diplomatic.
The idea of awarding both bids at one has been publicly discussed over the past months. In fact, L.A. 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman explained the reasons why he decided not to push the IOC to commit to Los Angeles for 2024.
He told that while they could use that strategy, it would have been quite presumptuous to tell the IOC how to think and what to do. Additionally, he said that the U.S. partnership has never been characterized by those kinds of acts, and assured this shouldn’t be a surprising statement for an American bid since he pointed out that the nation’s support for the Olympics has never wavered.
One of the main reasons why Paris is the favorite to host the Summer Games is not only because of its competence to host these kinds of events, but also because of the non-written rule of not repeating the Olympics in the same continent two times in a row. Since many decades, other major events as the FIFA World Cup also use this modus operandi.
If the predictions end up being true and Paris is selected to host the 2024 Olympics, it will mark the 100-year anniversary of when it last conducted the Summer Games in 1924. The curious detail about that event was that Los Angeles was the main competitor to host it.
On its part, the last time the Californian city hosted the Olympics was in 1984. This event was characterized by the Soviet bloc boycott and the return of China to this major competition after its last outing in 1952.
Given the fact that one of President Trump’s major goals is to boost the economy and create more jobs, his bet in this Olympics seems quite reasonable considering the economic benefits that this event usually represents for the cities that host it.
Since these places need to develop new infrastructures or modernize the old ones in order to meet the event’s requirements, there are more job opportunities for anyone who wants to be part of this experience.
Additionally, another advantage of hosting the Summer Games is that it serves as a tourist attraction and a huge opportunity to catch the eye of global business leaders, which always means more jobs and economic development.

The most interesting detail about the rise of employment that this event can bring to the country that hosts it is that these jobs won’t be only for the three weeks the Olympics last, but for all the years of planning.
While the next games will be played in 2020 in Tokyo, the world is waiting to know which will end up being the hosts of the two future Olympics. Experts assure Paris and Los Angeles are the greatest candidates, given the fact that both nations have the greatest elements to make this event a huge success.
