Although they did not specify what the specific safety concerns were, the closures appear to be related to an Obama-era deal involving toxic waste that was struck between the United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK).
The deal, which was ironically pushed by former President Barack Obama and former Prime Minister David Cameron back in 2016, was for highly enriched uranium from a power station in Dounreay, Scotland to be secretly flown to the US in exchange for “medical grade” uranium to be used in the making of “radioisotopes for detecting cancer.” Disturbingly, it looks like these dangerous shipments, which put the environment and countless people in danger, are going to continue to come until late 2019.
After this next delivery, there will reportedly be about six or seven more to follow. They’ll occur sometime between now and September of next year.
Unsurprisingly, many locals are not pleased that these dangerous shipments are occurring. Their outrage is confounded by the fact that they have to use two airports instead of one due to the fact that “the runway at the Scots airport was too short for the giant US Air Force C-17 Globemaster to take off with its fuel tanks full.”
One of the people most concerned about the matter is John Finnie, a Highlands and Islands Member of Scottish Parliament (MSP).
“Transporting nuclear waste is a risky business,” explained Finnie.
“By using two airports you are doubling the take-offs and landings in this country, which doubles the risk,” he continued, noting, “it is disturbing to discover we are now using an extra airbase in heavily populated areas for a stop-off to transport nuclear waste.”
Dr. Richard Dixon, the director of Friends of the Earth, which is “an international network of environmental organizations in 74 countries,” added, “there’s no truly safe way to move this nuclear waste.”
In response to the concern, a spokesperson with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority told reporters, that their priority was to “comply with the regulations governing the safety and security of nuclear material.”
Unfortunately, though, they’ve refused to comment on the most recent shipment being flown out of the country. The same goes for the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Police Scotland, the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, Dounreay, and the airport.
Sadly, this isn’t the only Obama-era agreement currently endangering the lives of countless people.
Obama’s controversial Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which allows “certain illegal aliens who entered the country as minors to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and eligibility for a work permit,” is also currently putting numerous people’s lives in danger. This is because there have been many DACA recipients, otherwise known as “DREAMers,” who have committed additional crimes after entering the country illegally.
For example, back in October 2016, Daniel De Jesus Rangel Sherrer, a 19-year-old DACA recipient, was arrested and charged with “first-degree murder.”
According to reports, the charges came after the “DREAMER,” confessed to deputies at the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office to forcing Diana Martinez-Gonzalez, an 18-year-old high school student, into a wooded area and fatally shooting her multiple times in the head. Apparently, he killed her because she was supposedly spreading false rumors about him.
And prior to that, Salvador Diaz-Garcia, a 21-year-old “DREAMer” living in Washington, was also arrested after he brutally beat and raped a 19-year-old teen in her apartment complex’s gym. As a consequence, he’s facing several charges, including “second-degree assault, second-degree rape, and third-degree child molestation” and is being held on $25,000 bail.
Angelo Martinez, also a 20-year-old “DREAMer,” was arrested last year as well after trying to steal a car from a group of football players in Albuquerque, New Mexico. According to reports, he met the football players at the Loma Linda Community Center football field as they were walking to their car to leave. Despite the fact that he was allegedly “acting sketchy as if he was trying to get in [the car],” the players decided to give him a ride anyway.
Once in the car, Martinez reportedly kept changing his mind about the end destination. When they finally pulled over in front of what they thought was Martinez’s house, he pulled out a gun and told them to all get out of the car.
Terrified, the football players listened and began exiting the vehicle. However, as they were getting out, Martinez clumsily fumbled with the gun. Upon seeing this, one of the players jumped back in the car and started repeatedly punching Martinez in the face. The other players then jumped in and managed to restrain him until police arrived.
Without a doubt, during Obama’s presidency, our country made a bunch of terrible deals. Thankfully, though, with President Donald Trump in charge, some of these awful agreements will be undone. Hopefully, this is what happens with the toxic waste deal that we have with the UK.
