Possible child weddings are taking place, according to the exclusive reported by ABC Action News.
In a Facebook video posted two weeks ago, one of the alleged victims described her terrible ordeal, which involved being married at the age of 14.
“At the time I was a virgin. It was going to be my first marriage of course,” said the teen.
She explained that the marriage didn’t last, and in 2016, was married to another man, Rajmann Sanders, who was more than twice her age.
The victim reported that he assaulted her and her 10-yearold sister.
“The 10-year-old was not handled correctly and everything was swept under the rug. Not only was it wrong, it was wrong to me because at the time I was still his wife,” she said.
Sanders has been charged with more than a dozen offenses against the two girls, including indecent assault, forcible compulsion, and rape.
According to the criminal complaint filed against him, Sanders threatened to shoot the older victim during one sexual assault incident.
Now, police are trying to ascertain whether the mosque is complicit in the actions of this, and other pedophiles, but investigating if child-bride weddings at taking place at the Masjid Uthman Dan Fodiyo mosque.
Police used search warrants at the mosque and the home of one of the leaders, but no evidence has been released, other than the criminal complaint.
The victim told reporters that she’s publicizing the incidents so that other children won’t fall victim to a patriarchal, antiquated and perverted practice that many Muslims approve and accept.
“This is not healthy for me or my kids. No one should want their kids around this, especially with the pedophilia, that should be enough to say no I don’t want my kids around this,” she said.
The victims are now in the protective custody of the Department Human Services while sander is in jail. The investigation is ongoing and more information is expected soon.
