A man in Italy was recently arrested after local law enforcement officials learned that he had been keeping an unidentified woman from Romania as a prisoner in a locked basement under a shed in his yard (pictured above).

Earlier this week, police officers in Italy noticed a car that appeared to be in “bad condition” and decided to pull it over. During what seemed like a routine traffic stop, they noticed a very dirty child, who appeared to be malnourished, sitting in the backseat of the car. Concerned, they decided to look into the boy’s living conditions. After following him home, they came across a disheveled woman holding a second malnourished child.

This prompted even more concern, and upon investigating the situation further, the officers realized that the driver of the car kidnapped the woman over a decade ago and had been keeping her as a sex slave in an absolutely filthy dungeon. Mortified, they immediately arrested the man.

Specifically, Aloisio Francesco Rosario Giordano, a 52-year-old man from Lamezia Terme, Italy, was recently taken into custody and charged with “family mistreatment, reduced slavery, and multiple sexual violence.”

This occurred after local law enforcement officials learned that he had been keeping an unidentified woman from Romania as a prisoner in a locked basement under a shed in his yard. Apparently, she was kidnapped by Giordano roughly 10 years ago shortly after his terminally ill wife, who she was helping him care for, passed away.

According to reports, she was only 19-years-old at the time of the kidnapping. While imprisoned, she was kept chained to a metal bar in a “rat and insect-infested room without running water or electricity,” where she was repeatedly beaten, tortured, and raped.

She also ended up giving birth to two children, one girl and one boy, who are now three and nine respectively. Horrifically, the nine-year-old boy was allegedly forced to participate in the torture of his mother or risk being beaten himself.

Following Giordano’s arrest, police footage of the dungeon that the young Romanian woman was kept in surfaced online. In the video, piles of garbage can be seen scattered throughout the small room that appears to be have been made out of iron, wood, and cardboard boxes. A makeshift toilet, which was really just a plastic bucket under a wooden chair with the seat cut out, is also visible in the brief clip.

Later in the video, officers show a bed, which was made out of cardboard, that the woman had been sleeping in with her two children. A metal pole that Giordano kept her chained to can also be seen.

Shockingly, this isn’t the first time that Giordano has done this to a helpless woman. Back in 1995, he was thrown behind bars for the exact same crime. Specifically, he spent five years in jail for reportedly kidnaping, raping, and torturing a Maria Rosa, who was 23-years-old at the time.

Like the woman from Romania, she also became pregnant on two different occasions. With Rosa, however, Giordano decided to abort the children. He allegedly performed the first abortion by kicking her in the stomach and used a scalpel and spoon for the second one.

Sadly, these types of incidents are not entirely uncommon. Earlier this year, for instance, Chloe Ayling, a 20-year-old model from the UK, was allegedly kidnapped in Milan while on her way to a photo shoot.

Specifically, upon arriving in Milan, Ayling was reportedly injected with ketamine, which can cause muscles paralysis. Her abductor, later identified as Lukasz Pawel Herba, a 30-year-old British-Polish man, then tied up and stuffed inside a large bag before driving her to a remote village. There, he kept locked up as he tried to sell her on the internet for almost $400,000.

Fortunately, when she found out that she had a child, Herba decided to let her go. “You have a two-year-old child and our rules exclude mothers,” he allegedly told her. While on his way to deliver her to the British Consulate, however, he was stopped by police, who had been relentlessly searching for him, and promptly arrested.

Without a doubt, incidents like these are the stuff of nightmares. Hopefully, Giordano, Herba, and anyone else caught engaging in a similar crime are punished as harshly as possible.
