Judge Issues Final Ruling, Trump Admin FORCED To Comply As Liberal Group Celebrates

Scott Lloyd of the Office of Refugee Resettlement is fighting these battles on behalf of the Trump administration.

A federal judge has ruled against President Trump and his administration, giving the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a group known for opposing nearly everything Trump does, a big reason to celebrate. The judge ordered that the administration stop blocking two illegal immigrants from obtaining abortions.

The ACLU asked for and received a temporary restraining order that would stop officials from having the procedure performed. The judge did include a 24-hour hold, however, allowing the government to file the expected paperwork for a stay in appeals court.

These cases were filed after the first illegal immigrant was blocked from having an abortion. In that case, the immigrant also eventually obtained permission to proceed.

The Office of Refugee Resettlement is in charge of refugees and illegal immigrants. They were responsible for the ban in the first place arguing that the women could leave the country or “find a suitable sponsor” in order to get the abortion they want.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) also weighed in with a statement last week;

“The minors in this case—who entered the country illegally—have the option to voluntarily depart to their home country or find a suitable sponsor. If they choose not to exercise these options, HHS does not believe we are required to facilitate the abortion.”

The ACLU is naturally celebrating and vowing to continue fighting. Brigitte Amiri, a senior staff attorney with the ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project stated;

“The judge’s decision is a reminder that both the law and justice are on our side. We’ve already seen the courts rule in favor of Jane Doe, and today justice prevailed for two more young women like her. Unfortunately, the Trump administration has shown no indication that they’ll abandon their cruel and dystopian crusade to block abortion access for some of the most marginalized people in our country. We’re prepared to keep fighting for as long as we need to.”

The Trump administration expressed their dismay over the ruling;

“We are deeply disappointed in the decision to grant a temporary restraining order that will compel HHS to facilitate abortions for minors when they are not medically necessary. A pregnant minor who has entered the country illegally has the option to voluntarily depart to her home country or identify a suitable sponsor. HHS-funded facilities that provide temporary shelter and care for unaccompanied alien minors should not become way stations for these children to get taxpayer-facilitated abortions.”
