Rather than actually facing facts, it seems that the democrat party and mainstream media are pushing an impeachment narrative with ungodly speed. However, the ‘reason’ touted for the outcry comes nowhere near the high crimes and misdemeanors required by the Constitution to impeach an elected president.
The next prospective House Intelligence Chairman, Adam Schiff, claimed President Trump could “face jail time,” after Michael Cohen said that he made ‘hush’ payments at the direction of Donald Trump during the 2016 campaign.
The mainstream media is also jumping on the bandwagon, claiming that impeachment is all but certain.
However, all of this rhetoric is complete malarkey. The facts, experts agree, don’t deliver any case for charges against President Trump, but don’t expect that trifling detail to weigh with democrats.
On “Face the Nation,” Schiff ignorantly stated, “There’s a very real prospect that on the day Donald Trump leaves office, the Justice Department may indict him, that he may be the first president in quite some time to face the real prospect of jail time.
“We have been discussing the issue of pardons the president may offer to people or dangle in front of people. The bigger pardon question may come down the road, as the next president has to determine whether to pardon Donald Trump.”
Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew McCarthy agrees that prosecutors in New York will attempt to indict Trump on ‘campaign finance’ charges, and argues the only reason Mueller forced Cohen to add the statement that the payments to the women were made “in coordination with and at the direction of” the candidate for federal office, was for the reason of an indictment.
However, these rabid New York leftists also seem to ignore the law and the facts in their push to destroy a man whose only crime is bringing back the American economy from the ruin it suffered under the previous administration.
He told Jake Tapper on CNN that the president had committed ‘impeachable offenses.” Of course, during the ACORN scandal, Nadler completely ignored it.
Nadler admitted to Tapper that the alleged offenses would have taken place before Trump took office, but said that would make them impeachable anyway because “they were committed in the service of fraudulently obtaining the office.”
He added that his committee would investigate it, along with the president’s “business dealings with the Russians” and his knowledge of “the Russian interference in the campaign.”
Experts agree, however, that Nadler is a blowhard without any means to back up his inflammatory accusations.
“The president is entitled to pay hush money to anyone he wants during a campaign. There are no restrictions on what a candidate can contribute to his own campaign. So if, in fact, the president directed Cohen to do it as his lawyer and was going to compensate him for it, the president committed no crime. if Cohen did it on his own … then Cohen commits the crime.
“If they claim that the president authorized him to do it or directed him to do it, it is not a crime for anybody. If Cohen did it on his own, then it is a crime for Cohen but not the president.
“This is going to be a very difficult case for the prosecution to make, precisely because the laws on election are so convoluted.”
“If, on the other hand, Cohen made the payments by himself, without direction from the president, that would constitute an impermissible campaign contribution from a third party.
“But if Cohen was merely acting as a lawyer for Trump and advancing the payments, with an expectation of repayment, then it would be hard to find a campaign finance crime other than failure to report by the campaign.”
Failure to report all campaign contributions is fairly common in political campaigns, but the violation is conducted and charged to the campaign, not the candidate.
Though it is a violation, it comes nowhere near a high crime and misdemeanors required for a constitutionally authorized impeachment and removal of an elected president.
The left and media in this country seems to conveniently forget that fact, however. Ignorant Nadler and Jake Tapper certainly appeared to.
Many agree that the fact is, there is no case against President Trump, but that won’t stop the left from doing their best to make one up out of thin air.
