I.C.E. To Sue Portland Over Measure Barring Police From Helping Federal Officials

I.C.E. employees are fighting back, threatening to sue the city for a violation of their 14th Amendment rights to equal protection under the law.

ICE officials weren't given any help from local police.

U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement officials are firing back at Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler for imposing a measure that prohibited local police from assisting the federal immigration agency, The Gateway Pundit reports. The nation’s premier immigration agency is planning to fight back against the city over the “wild west” violence with a stunning lawsuit over dereliction of duty, arguing that the city violated ICE agents 14th Amendment rights to equal protection under the law.

ICE is reportedly planning to sue after Portland police refused to respond to at least two emergency calls from ICE officials, while a mob of angry demonstrators blocked them inside their building nearly two weeks ago. ICE officials were inside their Portland office as rioters outside had taken part in a week-long protest.

On Tuesday, Conservative Daily Post reported that the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council, a union representing ICE officials, sent a cease-and-desist letter to Wheeler over his refusal to assist ICE officials.

ICE is reportedly preparing to sue the city after a mob of demonstrators set up several tents outside ICE offices in the area between July 20 and July 25. After they set up a city of tents, the demonstrators reportedly became very violent and confrontational with ICE agents.

At one point during the week-long demonstration, the ICE agents were trapped inside their building and could not leave because the mob of protestors blocked them in and would not let them leave.

When the agents called Portland police at least twice for back-up or any assistance at all, the cops reportedly did not answer nor did they provide any help to the federal officers.

Portland police, according to reports, are not allowed to work with ICE officials because Wheeler created a new policy cutting all ties with the federal immigration agency.

So, ICE is considering suing the city because Wheeler’s policy not only endangered the immigration officers, it violated their 14th Amendment rights to equal protection under the law.

Because Wheeler has an apparent vendetta against the Trump administration, he created and imposed a policy that outright barred police from assisting ICE agents.

Even when the agents called 911 for help because a mob of intolerant demonstrators blocked them in the building, the police did not answer.

Many would agree that it is shameful that the officers didn’t even answer the call, but perhaps they feared being reprimanded or charged for not adhering to Wheeler’s new policy.

This is another scathing example of how far some liberals are willing to go to show their opposition to the Trump administration, and now ICE appears to be gearing up to fight back against the liberal-controlled city in a big way.
