South Carolina Representative Trey Gowdy sits on the House Intelligence Committee. In an interview yesterday with the Daily Caller he blasted other democrats on the panel for criticizing GOP efforts to uncover the truth from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) concerning the now largely debunked Trump/Russia dossier.
Trying to do their jobs, GOP members are looking for answers while it’s becoming more and more obvious that democrats want to sweep all the wrongdoing of the previous administration under the rug. When discussing the liberal opposition to the investigation, Gowdy queried, “For the life of me I don’t understand why they are focused on this, unless they are fearful that the bureau did rely on a piece of fiction.”
As more evidence is unearthed concerning the depths of liberal-led corruption and cover-up tactics, Gowdy and other conservatives on the committee are simply trying to get to the bottom of one small cog in the leftist machine designed to usher in totalitarian rule in America.
Given the fact that it’s the committee’s specific purpose to oversee specific executive branch agencies and departments, the liberal opposition seems blatantly contrived. Gowdy claims that democrats are afraid of being exposed for their lies.
He was particularly speaking about the censure and disapproval spewed by leftist committee members concerning the subpoenas of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI director Christopher Wray. The committee wants to know exactly how important the dossier was to Mueller’s investigation and how the major government agency vetted the information before acting.
Both agencies refused to provide the information requested in the subpoenas, so the committee extended the deadline to September 14, but they still want to hear from Sessions and Wray.
Democrats, however, say the republicans are taking an unnecessary step to discredit the dossier. Ranking member Adam Schiff from California has been extremely adamant in fighting the subpoenas and the investigation. Jim Hines and Eric Swalwell are also two of the minority democrats who’ve tried to stop the committee’s pursuit of evidence.
The argument is at the root of the bogus Trump investigation and the lies told to the American people about phony collusion. Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller used it to open his investigation into the president and his team is stacked with rabid democrat donors.
The dossier was fabricated for an opposition research firm called Fusion GPS, which was founded and staffed by Hillary donors. They requested that a former MI6 agent compile information about President Trump’s activities in Russia. What followed was 17 memos chock full of false inventions and unsubstantiated lies. Senator McCain brought it to the attention of congress and specifically gave it to the FBI, prompting the entire fake narrative still used by uneducated, ignorant liberals.
Moreover, it’s been used by the FBI to provide the “cause” for conducting investigations into anyone connected with Trump. Last September, the FBI used it to garner a warrant from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court on campaign adviser Carter Page. He was falsely accused of acting as a middle man for Trump and Russia, but he has never even met the president.
Gowdy just wants answers from an agency that he is qualified to oversee. In fact, he doesn’t even want the FBI to disclose sensitive information like sources or how the dossier was actually compiled. All that he and other GOP members on the committee are asking for is proof that the dossier was vetted.
He also wants to know how much of the investigation into the collusion was based on the dossier. Are these questions too much? Shouldn’t the American people, through their elected representatives, have the right to understand how the FBI is choosing evidence to investigate crimes?
“I don’t need to know how you got the information, just tell me how you either sought to corroborate it, how you vetted it,” says Gowdy. He added, “Did the FBI rely upon it? Did the DOJ rely upon it? If yes, to what extent, and how did you vet the sources and sub-sources in the document?”
For example, if one citizen makes an allegation against another, perhaps says his neighbor is a terrorist, wouldn’t justice demand that investigators first ascertain the credibility of the accuser? When authorities discover that an accusation was part of a ongoing fued and that there’s absolutely no other corroboration about the claim, shouldn’t the person who asserted the lie face punishment?
What if the police didn’t vet the source of the information? Perhaps an innocent man would be sent to jail, fined, or have his life ruined.
This is exactly what these liberals in Washington did to the president. They took information, won’t say how they vetted it, and then used it to slander, deride, and malign the president of the United States. The FBI needs to answer these questions, and very soon. Democrats are fearful about being found out in their nefarious schemes and are fighting GOP members on the committee.
The American people are tired of false accusations and want the guilty Obama administration personnel to pay for their crimes.
