Several House Democrats introduced a measure on Thursday that would terminate the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. After some political trickery by the GOP, the same Democrats who introduced the bill are going to vote against their own bill. This surprise changes everything, and exposes the lying, hypocritical Democrats.
According to The Daily Caller, Democrat Reps. Mark Pocan, Adriano Espaillat, and Pramila Jayapal unveiled the Establishing a Humane Immigration Enforcement Act, a dangerous bill that would abolish ICE and create a new commission to oversee immigration enforcement.
In a joint statement, the three liberal lawmakers decried that ICE is “out of control” and said President Donald Trump is to blame for the agency being unable to function properly.
The stunt backfired for three reasons: Democrats never anticipated the bill going to the House floor, they believed a majority of the electorate supported their radical proposal, and Republicans are going to force them to vote on the bill before midterm elections.
According to a new Morning Consult/Politico poll, 54 percent of all voters want to keep ICE. While 43 percent of the Democrat voters support abolishing ICE, a whopping 79 percent of Republican and 54 percent of Independent voters support preserving the agency.
By introducing the resolution on the House floor, Democrats will now have to vote on the record about whether they support abolishing ICE or not. This was a brilliant move by Cruz and Kennedy to make Democrats either vote in favor of ICE — which goes against their party — or vote against ICE — which will not sit well with the American people.
Adding a cherry-on-top: Republicans cleared space on the congressional calendar and plan to force Democrats to vote on their own anti-ICE bill before the midterm elections in November.
As noted by Fox News, Pocan, Espaillat, and Jayapal revealed on Thursday that they will vote against their own bill to save face.
Democrats introduced a radical bill, found out it was wildly unpopular, and tried to back away from the proposal.
Cruz and Kennedy introduced a resolution forcing liberals to go on record about whether they support ICE and the brave work they do each day to keep the nation safe.
And, the Democrats are now going to vote against their own bill so they don’t lose even more support with voters.
Republicans have played this one perfectly.
