Former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus said then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe told him last February at the White House that reports of the FBI having proof of collusion was a complete fabrication.
During an interview, Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Priebus told host Chuck Todd that McCabe walked into his office on Feb. 14 and told him point blank that a New York Times report detailing contacts between President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russian officials was “total BS.”
Priebus said the Times story claiming the FBI had proof Trump was in contact with the Russians during the election illustrated the overall goal of the liberal media to derail president.
The former chief of staff, who was replaced by former Marine Gen. John Kelly late last year, said the recently released four-page FISA abuse memo from the House Intelligence Committee further shows that there’s no evidence of collusion.
When asked by Todd is he ever felt “misled” by the Trump administration about contacts with Russians, Priebus smacked down that fake news.
“I never felt that I was involved in something nefarious. The whole way through from the beginning to the end,” Priebus said.
Priebus went on to explain that Trump is frustrated with the Russia probe because not only is there zero evidence of a crime after nearly a year of investigating, but former FBI Director James Comey and McCabe were both telling the White House last year that the president was not under any investigation.
Yet, the media continued and still does, to run salacious stories claiming he colluded with Russia to defeat twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
“So you can understand the frustration of the president when he’s told he’s not under investigation. I think you know the story of Andrew McCabe that walked into my office, shut my door and basically told me that The New York Times’ story that was in the paper that first came out in February that said there are constant contacts between the Trump campaign and the Russians with the door closed — looked at me and said, ‘I want you to know that this story right here is total BS. It’s overstated and it’s not true.’”
During his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee last June, Comey flat-out said the FBI is aware that the media is running false stories about the Russia investigation to harm Trump.
“The challenge and I’m not picking on reporters, about writing stories about classified information is people talking about it often don’t know what’s going on … And we don’t call the press to say, ‘hey, you got this thing wrong about this sensitive topic. We just have to leave it there,” Comey said.
So McCabe confirmed to the White House the FBI had no evidence of collusion. Comey testified that he told Trump numerous times he was not under criminal investigation.
So why are taxpayers still footing the bill for these phony Russia investigations when no crime has been found after a year of probing?
