In the immediate aftermath of the mass shooting at the Stoneman Douglas High School, the Democratic National Committee tried to fundraise off the tragedy.
The email was signed by DNC Chairman Tom Perez, and it asked supporters to sign their petition notifying Congress that “it’s past time to take action to address our country’s gun violence epidemic.”
In order to sign the petition, an individual is required to give the DNC their email address, address, and zip code. After doing so, they are directed to a donation page asking for money to “help Democrats take on the gun lobby.”
A screenshot of the email can be viewed below:
“Your contribution will benefit Democratic National Committee (DNC),” reads a short paragraph above the donation box.
Perez’s email features emotional language aimed at making supporters believe they genuinely care about the victims and aren’t exploiting a horrific event for personal gain.
“Yesterday afternoon, a 19-year-old with a weapon of war walked into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida and opened fire, killing 17 people and injuring many others,” Perez wrote.
The email continues: “We have seen this happen too many times. This is not normal. This is not acceptable. This is not inevitable. It’s long past time for our leaders to stop pretending we are helpless in the face of such tragedy.”
In the aftermath of 17 people being killed and dozens injured from the mass shooting, the DNC immediately attempts to politicize the tragedy so they can beg for donations.
When they aren’t using a tragedy to ask for money, Democrats are blaming Republicans and President Donald Trump for the tragedy.
It takes a sick person to exploit the tragedy that left 17 people dead for political donations, but that is exactly what the DNC did.
