Be careful what you wish for, and if you are going to accuse your opponent of something, you better make sure your hands are clean first. Democrats are finding this out now and possibly in a very damaging way.
Earlier this week, in his confirmation hearing, President Trump’s FBI Director nominee, Christopher Wray, was questioned about a new report that has resurfaced regarding the DNC and its dealings with the Ukrainian embassy that was working to discredit the candidate Donald Trump’s credibility, and fueling the Russian collusion connection.
Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham brought up this Politico’s report, reading from the report. “Donald Trump wasn’t the only presidential candidate whose campaign was boosted by officials of a former Soviet bloc country,” Graham quoted. Graham went on to read the assertion that Ukrainian officials “helped Clinton’s allies research damaging information on Trump and his advisers.”
At the end of his time to question the potential FBI director, Senator Graham asked Wray, “Will you look into this?” to which the nominee replied he would be “happy to dig into it.”
The more heated talk about collusion actually started a few days earlier when the New York Times reported that they had FINALLY discovered the connection between the Trump campaign and Russia.
Once the “bombshell” was available to be read, and digested, it fell flat, led to more questions than answers, and was mocked for being mostly hype. The misleading, tabloid style headline seemed to be another attempt to bury the success of President Donald Trump’s European trip.
As with most of these scandals that require more imagination to believe than a George Lucas film, this story has started to fall apart and trust of the media is sinking even lower.
The attempt to find collusion between the president and the Russians may have failed, but what this story has found is not what the Democrats intended. Now that collusion and foreign government interference is all the rage, a Politico story from January is now getting a lot more press and scrutiny.
In Politico’s January piece they laid out very specific details about a Ukrainian-American named Alexandra Chalupa, a veteran Democratic operative with long ties to the Clinton’s. During Bill Clinton’s administration, she worked in the White House’s Office of Public Liaison. Afterwards, she was a staffer, before landing a job as a consultant for the Democratic National Committee, making $412,000 a year. She worked there for two years, according to records filed with the Federal Election Commission.
Chalupa became a player because of her claims that she developed a network in Kiev that would help her get dirt on Paul Manafort, who was getting closer to the Trump campaign and other ties to Russia Trump may have.
According to someone at the meeting, in a March 2016 meeting, Chalupa told Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.S., Valeriy Chaly, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, and one of his top aides, Oksana Shulyar, she was “concerned” that Manafort was “Putin’s political brain for manipulating U.S. foreign policy and elections.”
While the news was dismissed, when Trump’s campaign officially hired Manafort, Chalupa’s demand from the DNC and Ukrainian embassy skyrocketed. Chalupa says that during this time, the embassy also worked directly with reporters researching Trump, Manafort and Russia to point them in the right directions.
If Democrats were working with a foreign government to lead reporters “in the right direction” that is very troublesome, especially as Democrats try to claim the Trump campaign was colluding with Russia.
Even though the Ukainian diplomats assistant vehemently denies working with reports, a political officer at the embassy, Andrii Telizhenko, refutes her defense. He claims the assistant instructed him to help Chalupa research connections between Trump, Manafort and Russia.
“Oksana said that if I had any information, or knew other people who did, then I should contact Chalupa,” recalled Telizhenko. “They were coordinating an investigation with the Hillary team on Paul Manafort with Alexandra Chalupa,” he tells Politico, adding “Oksana was keeping it all quiet,” but “the embassy worked very closely with” Chalupa.
Telizhenko recounts Chalupa telling the Ukrainian party that, “If we can get enough information on Paul [Manafort] or Trump’s involvement with Russia, she can get a hearing in Congress by September.”
What is possibly the most damning, and scary, is that the Ukrainians believed if they leaked enough information they could force our Congress to act. A foreign government tying up our leaders under false pretenses and with information from a person with an agenda.
The Politico piece lays out how this affected our elections. That is the only fact presented to date of a foreign government interfering in the functioning of our government.
“Politico’s investigation found evidence of Ukrainian government involvement in the race that appears to strain diplomatic protocol dictating that governments refrain from engaging in one another’s elections.”
Not the Russians, the Ukrainians.
Not the Trump campaign, but the DNC, and possibly the Hillary Clinton, campaign.
Not Donald Trump Jr., but Alexandra Chalupa.
When confronted with these new revelations the DNC has denied any wrongdoing. “We never got any actual information. It didn’t go beyond running by someone in a hallway and hearing rumors … It was hearsay in the hallway conversation, there was never any formal conversation or paper research.”
If the “We never got any actual information” defense works for the Democrats, then why is the left going berserk right now? Claims of treason, which is punishable by death, life sentences, impeachment (again) and more have all been leveled this week by elected Democrats, and the media, against Donald Trump Jr. So why can one side accept opposition research and the other side must serve a life sentence on death row?
In a recent interview deputy assistant to President Trump Dr. Sebastian Gorka noted this hypocrisy. “Let’s compare that to the DNC, to the Hillary campaign that actually send sone of its operatives to the Ukrainian embassy to collect oppo research, to actually collect it and then coordinates with members of that foreign government attacks on our campaign.”
“So again,” continued Gorka, “the news media would have you look at something that doesn’t exist, while the actual real news story is never given any time on channels such as CNN.”
In one case, there is real collusion with government officials, and it is not the Trump campaign. This troubling news demands a non-partisan, trustworthy agency do a thorough investigation, led by figure a sober-minded, aggressive, fearless leader. Is Christopher Wray that man and the FBI that agency? For our republic’s sake, let’s hope so, because answers need to be given to restore trust in the way our system is functioning.
