Next week, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats in the House and Senate are planning to bring in groups of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients and other immigrants to President Trump’s State of the Union address.
Along with bringing in these illegal aliens granted temporary protections under the Obama administration, Democrats, like Nancy Pelosi also are planning to speak at the event on immigration policies they are championing, such as open borders, mass migration and amnesty for illegal aliens.
One of the major talking points of the event will be President Trump’s recently released framework for potential immigration legislation. This proposal included a path to citizenship for 1.8 million illegal aliens, far more than the 700,000 granted protections under Obama’s executive order.
The proposal would grant citizenship to those currently protected under DACA after they met certain requirements, such as working and being of good moral character.
It would also allow other illegal aliens brought into the country as children to become citizens after a period of 12 years, and hold them to the same standards as DACA recipients.
The framework proposed by the White House also contains provisions which would dramatically cut legal immigrants brought in through chain migration.
Currently, millions of immigrants have been given priority acceptance into the country because they have distant relatives who live in the United States.
The new bill would allow for immigrants to bring in their spouses and minor children, no extended family. This could reduce the number of green cards issued by the United States by 25-50 percent, something Pelosi and Schumer despise. Terrorist and their relatives have previously been brought in through the process of chain migration.
The framework proposed also calls for a dramatic increase in spending for border security. While the Department of Homeland Security has recently asked for $18 billion in funding, the new framework demands $25 billion.
The additional funding would be allocated for several different projects, including beefing up security at our northern border with Canada and ports of entry from the north. It also includes an increase in spending on border patrol, immigration agents and judges for immigration cases.
The $25 billion would also cover the cost of building a border wall between the United States and Mexico. The border wall promised by President Trump during his campaign has been a contentious issue with Democrats who have made a variety of derogatory remarks about the idea and President Trump.
President Trump is also reportedly pursuing an end to the “catch and release” system where immigrants caught crossing the border are caught, arrested, given a court date and then released into the United States, many of whom never return for their immigration hearing.
The Green cards that would not be allocated to the diversity lottery and chain migration under the current system would go toward those waiting to gain legal entry into the country, some of which have waited over 30 years. This would mean no sharp reduction in legal immigration for 10-20 years.
Democrats are fighting virtually all of the immigration policies proposed, except the amnesty provision and the increased border funding, which includes the wall. It is likely all of the provisions will be included, however, because Republicans hold the majority in the House and the Senate.
Protections for DACA recipients run out in March, and if new immigration legislation is not passed before then, hordes of new illegals will be subject to deportation.
Democrats are desperate to protect these illegals and this may be the only solution to grant them a path to citizenship.
Democrats have voiced concerns over the new policy breaking up families which is disingenuous. If the extended families of these illegal immigrants were the priority of these foreign nationals they would join them in their home countries.
Democrats at President Trumps State of the Union address will use the illegal immigrants they bring to the event as political pawns in an attempt to gain sympathy for their illegal occupation of our nation, and the right for them to bring in hordes of their extended family.
The government is only currently funded through a temporary spending bill which only lasts until February 8, and failure to pass immigration legislation will likely lead to another government shutdown.
With little leverage and time quickly running out for DACA recipients, Nancy Pelosi and other democrats have become desperate, and pulling political stunts like bringing in masses of illegals to the State of the Union address is an indication of their weakness and inability to stop President Trump’s immigration reform.
