“It’s really a matter of putting public pressure on the president,” Suozzi said during the event in Huntington, New York.
He added: “This is where the Second Amendment comes in, quite frankly, because you know, what if the president was to ignore the courts? What would you do? What would we do?”
One audience members reportedly asked what the Second Amendment was, proving liberals aren’t even aware of what they want to be banned.
“The Second Amendment is the right to bear arms,” Suozzi replied.
Nervousness overtook the room as it became clear a member of Congress was implying that citizens should take up arms to remove a sitting president by force.
National Republican Campaign Committee spokesman Chris Martin said the democrat’s remarks were chilling and very disturbing.
“This video is incredibly disturbing. It’s surreal to watch a sitting member of Congress suggest that his constituents should take up arms against the president of the United States,” Martin said.
While political adviser Kim Devlin denied Suozzi was “advocating for an armed insurrection,” the campaign doubled down on the disturbing comments in a later press release.
The Post reports the campaign sent out a memo to supporters that featured a quote from Thomas Jefferson that called for armed resistance to tyrannical leaders.
“What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms,” the quote said.
The campaign claims the Democratic lawmaker was making a point about the protecting Second Amendment, but that’s simply not true.
Suozzi clearly called for Americans to take up guns to forcibly remove Trump from office, and the campaign hasn’t completely refuted that claim.
The remark was widely interpreted by Americans as a not-so-subtle call for violence, and that should concern everyone that Democrats are stooping this low to oppose Trump.
In their quest to oppose Trump at all costs, Democrats continue to call for violence against the president because they disagree with this viewpoints.
Rather than have meaningful dialogue on policy, abhorrent liberals call for violence and aggressive actions against Trump and his supporters.
Threatening violence against the president of the United States is a felony, and Suozzi should be investigated for his disturbing comments.
