Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, has been leading the charge on opposing Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh and demanding he withdraw his nomination. But when she was pressed on the dirty ‘leaking’ tactics of Democrats to smear and attack Kavanaugh, she was apparently ‘not confident’ and refused to answer.
During an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” Hirono was asked point-blank several times about who leaked the letter Christine Blasey Ford sent to Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Democrat Sen. Diane Feinstein two months ago. She was pressed several times about whether Democrats strategically leaked Ford’s accusations against Kavanaugh days before a crucial Committee vote, but she wouldn’t answer.
Some argue she was silent because the leak is very serious, and could end in charges.
Roughly two months ago, Feinstein received a letter from Ford alleging Kavanaugh groped her at a high school party around 1982. There are no witnesses corroborate the tale and Kavanaugh has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, attending the supposed party, or ever even knowing Ford.
Feinstein didn’t tell anyone about the letter until a week before the confirmation hearing, and then it was mysteriously leaked, which kicked off a flurry of events to stall the confirmation. Ford and Kavanaugh testified last week, and four other people came forward with baseless accusations against Kavanaugh.
Despite all of this, Hirono won’t say if Democrats leaked the letter.
“Are you confident the Democrats didn’t leak that letter, and how do you respond to Senator Graham’s charge that it was inappropriate for the Democrats to refer Dr. Blasey Ford to a lawyer?” Hirono was asked.
“All of these things do not focus on what we should be focusing, which is the credibility of Judge Kavanaugh,” Hirono said.
After deflecting the real issue of the accuser’s credibility, when asked again about the leak, Hirono deflected.
“And, by the way, even as all of these accusations about this being politically motivated are being tossed around, everyone acknowledges, including Judge Kavanaugh, that Dr. Ford is not being politically motivated,” Hirono said, who has suggested Kavanaugh didn’t deserve due process because of his conservative legal philosophy.
She deflected three times when asked who leaked the letter and if it was done politically to harm Kavanaugh.
Hirono’s non-answer has sparked calls from Republicans to investigate Feinstein and other Democrats for leaking the letter, which some argue could have violated Senate rules and could be illegal.
Aside from Ford’s incredibly flimsy allegations, four others have since come forward with equally shoddy accusations.
A second accuser, Deborah Ramirez, claims Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a party in 1983. A third accuser, Julie Swetnick, came forward on Wednesday and accused Kavanaugh of taking part in “gang rapes” at parties in the early 1980s.
Two others have since come forward with allegations in the form of anonymous letters, one of which was from the man believed to be Catalan.
There’s literally no evidence at all to support claims from any of the five people outside of “he said, she said” allegations, yet Kavanaugh is being smeared and portrayed as a sexual predator.
Someone leaked Ford’s letter to the media, and that paved the way for the other four people to come forward with their allegations. Only Democrats have benefited from this smear process, as they are doing everything imaginable to thwart Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
And Hirono’s refusal to answer if Democrats leaked the letter to the media speaks volumes, and shows many how dirty they are playing to harm Kavanaugh.
