“Deep Regret”: UN DEMANDS Trump Decision Reversed, But Then Haley Arrives On Scene

The United Nations Security Council voted today on President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The one-page resolution was drafted by Egypt and does not mention the president. Instead, it expresses “deep regret at recent decisions concerning the status of Jerusalem.”

The resolution had the support of the 15-member council. However, besides requiring the votes of nine members, it needed no vetoes by the U.S., France, Britain, Russia, or China.

That is where the problem arose for those that demanded the resolution passed. U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley had emphatically said she will vote no on any resolution reversing President Trump’s decision. That turned out to be exactly what she did, the final vote was 14-1. She is calling being forced to veto “an insult. It won’t be forgotten.” It is the first time in more than six years that the U.S. has used its veto power.

She had already announced her support for the president’s decision, calling it “the just and right thing to do.”

This is just the most recent backlash against the president’s declaration. The 57-member Organization for Islamic Cooperation has already declared the decision “null and void.” At the request of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the organization stated that the U.S. could no longer be an “unbiased” mediator of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

Israeli leaders countered, stating that the resolution by the U.N. was an attempt to revise history and deny the country the right to choose their capital. Israeli envoy to the U.N. Danny Danon stated;

“No vote or discussion can change the clear reality — Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, now and always. We will continue to fight for the historical truth, this time, together with our allies.”

In the eyes of Israel, Jerusalem has always been the capital. Palestine and other Arab nations consider East Jerusalem to be the capital.

Opponents likely knew the resolution would not pass. However, they are saying it demonstrates the worldwide disapproval of President Trump’s decision.
