Leftists in the United States have a long history of demanding that the United States abandon any attempt at energy independence due to the environment. Of particular note is the war on coal waged by left-wing politicians which we are told is to save the environment. However, it appears that this concern for the damage coal causes to the environment is limited to the United States as leftist think tank Center for American Progress forgot to hide their feelings for the use of coal in China.
In a new paper by the think tank, they state that China is a “global clean energy leader”. That’s right, China which has cities that require citizens to wear protective gear due to air pollution is a paragon of clean energy according to the Center for American Progress. The paper continues to state that the massive coal sector in China is not a problem because it is “becoming green”, though they fail to specify how.
The paper also says that China has not developed their natural gas supplies well enough to use less coal. Based on the wording, we can assume that this would mean that the Center for American Progress then would also support fracking and natural gas independence for China as well; a practice that they deem environmentally unfriendly when practiced by the United States.
This rhetoric that talks about a coal industry “becoming green” and the importance of independent control of natural gas supplies is a stark comparison to what is used against the United States. When the Center for American Progress talks about coal in the United States they assure us that it’s a dead industry and can not be saved by any means, they instead suggest that hard-working coal miners accept minimum wage jobs in a service industry as a replacement.
Despite the claims by the Center for American Progress that coal is just naturally being replaced by foreign energy sources, it is estimated that the hostile coal policies created by groups such as theirs have resulted in coal power plant shut down at least once every ten days for years. Similar policies are being crafted to oppose the relatively new fracking industry that offers natural gas independence to the United States.
In its rhetoric against fracking in the United States, the Center for American Progress states ridiculous assertions such as the United States running out of the water if it fails to place the same type of restrictions they have against coal on fracking. Another claim that the Center for American Progress will make is that it will lead to massive water contamination based on a singular example that was never confirmed to be caused by fracking. Despite the assertions by the Center for American Progress, research finds that it is unlikely fracking will cause a notable increase in water consumption or water contamination.
It is worth noting that the Center for American Progress has ties to politicians such as John Podesta who was a former president of the organization and is mainly funded by George Soros. Under the Obama administration, Freedom of Information Act requests showed collaboration between the EPA and the Center for American Progress as well as the anti-coal group Sierra Club.
Not limited to fighting coal and fracking, these groups also fight against attempts to build a modern nuclear power source in the United States. Despite the fact that nuclear is a clean and renewable energy, the Center for American Progress tries to state that nuclear energy is too “expensive”, despite evidence showing the opposite. Of course, nuclear energy is too expensive for the United States but they support it for China.
It appears that the Center for American Progress supports the use of coal, fracking, and nuclear energy as long as the usage of those energies takes place outside of the United States. Why is it that the hostility that they have for these energies only applies to the United States?
Undoubtedly, the Center for American Progress would probably tell you that it has to do with big business and evil capitalists. Ironically, despite the leftist claims of gigantic “big oil” conspiracy theories about how they control the government and get the government to fund their business, it would appear that the opposite is true. The Center for American Progress has been the recipient of at least $4 billion tax dollars to build a solar farm, which they failed to disclose.
