Viral footage shot from a Florida Greyhound has enraged immigration activists. The video shows multiple Border Patrol agents boarding the bus and demanding to see proof of identity for every passenger.
A 60-year-old Jamaican woman was caught in the snare. She’d overstayed her visa and had nothing to show when agents demanded to see her passport. The woman was arrested and transported to a Border Patrol station. Deportation proceedings are underway.
The video of the woman’s arrest is shocking because of her advanced age and calm demeanor. However, the agents who arrested her didn’t do anything wrong. Overstaying your visa is illegal. If you choose to ignore the law, you have to accept the consequences.

Border Patrol released the following statement:
“On (Friday), while performing an immigration inspection at a Ft. Lauderdale bus station, Border Patrol agents identified a passenger who was illegally residing in the United States. The subject was an adult female that had overstayed her tourist visa. She was arrested and transported to the Dania Beach Border Patrol station for further investigation and later turned over to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement Removal Operations (ERO) for removal proceedings.”
The agents were just doing their job. Liberals think that they’re being compassionate when they support illegal immigrants, but they’re actually just making things worse. Grandmothers feel comfortable flouting the law and staying in the country illegally because Democrats are telling them that it’s no big deal, that they’re welcome.
“Passengers were shocked that their citizenship would be questioned and proof of citizenship was being required for a local bus route from Orlando to South Florida, arguing that they did not carry those documents because their travels did not include the crossing of any federal borders,” immigrant activist group the Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC) wrote on their website.
“Incidents like these erode public trust in police and authority figures whose job is to serve and protect our communities… Without an official judicial warrant, border patrol agents should not be permitted to board the private property of the Greyhound corporation to harass its customers and violate their civil liberties. Floridians deserve to ride a bus in peace without having to carry a birth certificate or passport to go to Disney World, visit family, or commute for work.”
Fiery words, but they’re factually incorrect. Border Patrol agents have every right to raid buses, trains, cars, etc in their search for illegals. They don’t need a warrant. Agents were allowed to board the Florida Greyhound bus because that’s what the law dictates.
“Fact: Immigration law states that Immigration Officers, without a warrant, may ‘within a reasonable distance from any external boundary of the US…board and search for aliens in any vessel, rail car, aircraft, conveyance, or vehicle,’” Customs and Border Patrol tweeted after the incident went viral.
The backlash over the Jamaican woman’s arrest is still growing. People are so outraged to see an older woman standing placidly in handcuffs that they’re forgetting about her crime. Agents were picking on her, she wasn’t singled out for bad luck.
The woman’s family spoke to the FLIC.
“My mother-in-law came to visit me last week,” the woman’s daughter-in-law said in a statement. “She’s my daughter’s grandmother and this was the first time meeting each other. I dropped her off at the Greyhound bus stop Friday morning and never got word of her arrival. I’m very concerned about these officers questioning her without a lawyer present.”
Illegal immigration activists don’t have a lot of rational proposals. Some of them claim to support border security, yet they make it their mission in life to protect illegals from deportation. People will continue to creep across the border as long as they’re still receiving heaps of support from liberals.
Greyhound released a measured statement earlier this week.
“We hear you, and we are listening… Unfortunately, even routine transportation checks negatively impact our operations and some customers directly,” the company said.
“We encourage anyone with concerns about what happened to reach out directly to these agencies… Greyhound will also reach out to the agencies to see if there is anything we can do on our end to minimize any negative effect of this process.”
