Lessons on Islam, commonly referred to as Access Islam, are being taught in public schools throughout the United States. Access Islam is funded by the Department of Education (DOE), promoted to teachers through PBS Learning Media, and was greatly expanded under the Obama administration.

Some of the lessons included within the Access Islam curriculum are; Salat: Prayer in Muslim Life; Quran: Sacred Scripture of Islam; Five Pillars of Islam; and Islam in America. Students are taught to learn Islamic scripture, give the meaning of the verse, and explain how they can use it in their daily lives.

One of the most disturbing lessons within Access Islam is the teaching of the Five Pillars of Islam. The Five Pillars must be fulfilled to gain access to “Paradise”. If you are unable to fulfill them, it is taught that you can still go to “Paradise” if you complete the mission of a suicide bomber, which is taking your life and the life of someone else’s. You will still get into “Paradise” as long as you also shout “Allah Akbar” before committing suicide.

According to the Christian Action Network, these lessons on Islam cross the line from academics to indoctrination and should be pulled.

Students are also shown videos of a Christian converting to Muslim and proclaiming that Allah is the one and only true God. Within the video, children are instructed to submit themselves to Allah. This is nothing more than forced propaganda being pushed on our children in an academic environment.

Martin Mawyer, president and founder of Christian Action Network (CAN) explains his objections:

“Through the access Islam curriculum, students in public schools in America are taught that Allah is God, at the same time they would never be taught that Jesus is God. When we took a look at the various lesson plans that are being offered, we thought they certainly crossed the line of anything that would be considered constitutional. When a teacher is expected to quiz their students on such questions as “What does a Muslim prayer sound like?” “What do Muslim prayer movements look like?” and “What are some of the things that Muslims say while they’re praying?” this is no longer a question of academia, it’s a question of what we would believe is religious indoctrination.”

The Department of Education claims the program is for grades 5-12. However, students begin learning about Islam and “Allah is the ONLY God” as early as 3rd grade.

As another parting gift, Obama’s administration directed the Department of Education to re-write the Access Islam curriculum last summer and largely expand it in time for the current 2016-17 school year. The program has continued to develop under Obama and now has a greater, broader outreach.

CAN issued a demand letter to U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, president of PBS Paula Kerger, and president of Ohio State University Michael Drake and pointed out the obvious indoctrination of this program:

“The nature of the materials and the lack of any similar materials for other religions such as Judaism, Christianity or Hinduism demonstrate the Establishment Clause violation because there can be no argument that the materials are for comparative educational purposes.”

CAN has retained the law firm of Carroll, Ucker, and Hemmer, LLC and they are demanding that the program end since it is in violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, which prohibits the use of public monies to promote religion.

CAN has also launched a petition to “dump Access Islam” from public schools in the United States.

Imagine if students, that were attending a public school, were instructed to read the Bible and told they had to interpret scripture and give the meaning of those scriptures. Then they are instructed to apply it and use it in their daily lives. Clearly, none of those lesson plans, activities, or questions would be permitted in the public schools if the subject was Christianity. The ACLU would be outraged, they would file a lawsuit so fast even their heads would spin.

Why are our children being indoctrinated with this ideology in a nation that declares our religious freedoms? The First Amendment clearly states that it is prohibited to establish a state religion. We are a nation that proclaims separation of church and government. We took God out of the curriculum within our public schools and Obama’s Department of Education replaced it with Islam.

Access Islam does not simply teach our children the history of Islam in a diverse way. The program does not compare it to any other religions. It is a program designed to grow the Islam ideology. We are witnessing this growth at many of our colleges that have instituted Muslim prayer rooms. Students are being excused from class and allowed to engage in these prayers on campus. Where are the Christian prayer rooms? Where is the tolerance to allow students to be excused from class so they can pray to God in the name of Jesus?

Access Islam is a major threat not only to our children but to our communities and our country. With the rise of homegrown terrorists and suicide bombers, it is appalling and dangerous to allow this religious ideology be taught to our innocent children.
