Under President Barack Obama, children of illegal immigrants, known as DREAMers, were given a free pass. According to him, they shouldn’t be punished because their parents broke the law. Unfortunately, some are taking advantage of this kindness and repeating their parent’s mistakes.
Just recently, a DREAMer was arrested in connection to anti-Trump graffiti, further highlighting the problem with keeping illegal immigrants in our country. While it’s true that not all undocumented aliens are criminals, if they were deported, our crime rates would certainly go down. We already have our own problems. There’s simply no need to add to them.
Earlier this week, Eric Cruz-Lopez, an illegal immigrant, was arrested and charged with 103 counts of criminal mischief for scrawling anti-Trump messages all over the University of Connecticut’s campus during the course of several months. According to police, starting in December, Cruz-Lopez, a former student of the university, used paint pens and spray paint to write numerous hateful comments directed at the President, such as, “f*** Trump,” on buildings and other property all around campus. Each time, he left “PEST” as the signature.
The officers were able to connect the graffiti to Cruz-Lopez because security cameras showed him to be the only person in the area when the vandalism occurred. Shortly after being arrested, the police managed to convince Cruz-Lopez to confess. “I did the graffiti,” he wrote in a statement, adding, “I am open to entering into a conversation about restitution.” By restitution, he’s referring to the school’s request to be reimbursed for removing the graffiti, which cost taxpayers $4,255. When asked why he did it, he explained that he could not keep his hatred for Trump to himself.
What’s worse, not only is Cruz-Lopez undocumented, he’s actively trying to make it easier for other illegals to get in and stay in our country. Before being arrested, Cruz-Lopez worked for CT Students for a Dream, which is “a statewide organization of DREAMers and allies that seek to empower undocumented students and their families by advocating for their rights and raising awareness about issues they face.”
However, by helping illegals stay in our country, law-abiding Americans are put in danger. For example, Irwin Gomez-Colon, an undocumented alien, allegedly raped and murdered a mother in her New Orleans home. When police arrived at the scene, they found her lying in a pool of blood, riddled with over 20 stabs wounds. Her 4-year-old child was seen crying next to her dead body. And earlier this year, Julio Cesar-Medrano, another illegal immigrant, was arrested for allegedly raping a 4-year-old child and filming the horrific act on his phone.
Hopefully, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents decide to deport Cruz-Lopez. He should not be here in the first place. His parents brought him here illegally when he was 7. The left tried to be nice to him by letting him stay here despite being undocumented. However, if he’s going to be ungrateful and break the law, he needs to be kicked out. Keeping him here only gives him the ability chance to break more laws. We have plenty of criminals breaking the law and vandalizing our community. We should deal with them first before bringing in other potential criminals.
Fortunately, President Trump understands the need to deal with our country’s immigration problem and has tasked Attorney General (AG) Jeff Sessions with addressing the issue. Like Trump, Sessions has made his opposition to illegal immigration abundantly clear. Since taking office, he’s tried a number of different approaches. Most recently, he tried speaking directly to potential immigrants.
Specifically, he said, “for those that continue to seek improper and illegal entry into this country, be forewarned: This is a new era. This is the Trump era.” He added, “let me be very clear. Don’t come. Please don’t come,” warning, “when you are caught, you will be detained, adjudicated and deported…do not come unlawfully. Wait your turn.” Whatever he’s doing seems to be working. Since taking office, illegal immigration has been down over 60%.
If Republicans plan on solving our country’s immigration problem, they need to first push back against the illegals protesting Trump. For some reason, many think that sneaking into our country gives them a right to protest our democratically elected leaders. They believe that they can come here and tell us how to run our country. But this is absurd. If they don’t like the way our country works, they should return to their country of origin.
